Bespoke Ethnic Indian Wear

Prints from royal influences…… you know that this is a combination that will create Magic!

The festival time and wedding months are here and the MUST HAVE for the season is the printed look for Mens Indian wear. The House of Pranay Baidya has created a range of custom designed Kurtas for bringing the celebration quotient forth. The textiles are a a fusion of matka silks and muslins which are light as air and come in these vivid designs styled on the Pathani  & Traditional outlines which can be combined in both casual or formal looks. One can pair them with a set of jeans or even trousers; the royal ethnic look of the combinations with Dhotis and shawls are of-course possible based on the occasion the kurtas are worn at. The fusion of the technique, style and intent comes as an Idea that Pranay spoke about passionately.

In his words, ” I wanted to create a range for Men that would celebrate color, patterns and textiles. Instead of playing with solids, the intent is to bring a variety of printed magic into the wardrobe in silhouettes that are ethnic but modern as well. The person can take the kurta and wear them with a pair of jeans and go for an event and then combine the same with a Nehru jacket and dhoti to get a very formal look for a wedding or a festival gathering. The ranges of prints are in every possible palette which can be subtle to vibrant allowing people to choose within their comfort range and express who they are. Each print design can be an extension of the wearers personality keeping in mind that he has chosen to wear a garment that breaks the norm of most men’s Indian ethnic designs. The textiles chosen are light and breathe well allowing for warm weather and also function well as under layers for heavier garments if need be !!!”

The Photo shoot as you see here is planned against the lovely Astor Hotel in Kolkata. One of the most elegant period properties of the city and its authentic Vintage hallways and Architecture formed the Ideal backdrop for the captures. The contrast of the vivid colors and the royal looks, were perfect for the Astor Hotel and many thanks to Supreeta Singh in helping set this up.

When I saw the Suites in the Astor Hotel , i have to say the magic took me back to another time. The furniture , panelled walls, artworks, lighting and textiles was truly from another time. It became the natural selection for the next look photoshoot.

Finally we took the images outside to the front of the hotel where there are these wonderful Bamboo green walls and some great period installations. Taking one of the Mughal prints from the collection became an automatic choice against the natural textures of the garden. The space walks into one of the most popular outdoor cafe bars in the city called THE Deck.
